Regular Maintenance

Leaky backflow riser…to be completely honest, I have no idea if this is the correct terminology or the specific use of this device in our parking lot. It has something to do with our water pressure and the fire hydrants but other than that, no idea. What I do know, is that we pay a company to service it every year and that it is currently leaking. One of our campus angels who looks out for us and fixes most things that break here on our campus came to help us out on Monday afternoon. No problem. There is a spring inside that has corroded so it is no longer creating the pressure needed to stop the water from leaking. He assured me it was an easy fix, and he would order the part and get it up and running for us quickly. No problem except the part must be ordered, we have to wait for it to arrive, and it costs a mere $1800. Ouch. It wasn’t from neglect that the spring broke because we service it every year, but it appears that once a year isn’t enough to ward off corrosion.

It makes me ponder what I’m neglecting in my life that needs a little more maintenance and attention than I am currently allotting. Everything was fine until it wasn’t, and our preventive maintenance didn’t stop the need for a pricey emergency fix. What is corroding below the surface in my life that I’m ignoring? Oh, for the wisdom to stop and examine myself before I’m broken.

Don’t turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you. Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment. Proverbs 4:6-7 NLT
