Love Well

On my desk in my classroom, I have a sign with about 20 Bible verses that can be rotated. The current verse on the sign is found in Romans 12:9. The specific words written are, “Cling to what is good.” This sentence is only a portion of the entire verse though. The NLT version says, “Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good.” When you read the verse in its entirety, it gives you a slightly different perspective. God calls us to love others. Not a superficial love. Not a pretend love. Love others with sincerity. A simple request or command that is a difficult feat on even my best day.

Today, I pray we can all love those in our midst and show compassion and genuine concern for the well-being of others. Loving well is a process. I wish I could say I love well every day, but I’m still working toward that goal with God’s help.

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Romans 9:12 NIV
